Corvara is a year round resort holiday
destination located in a wide, sunny basin at the foot
of the Sassongher mountain in the Alta Badia ski region.
The mountainous region is dominated
by the famous Dolomites. It is one of the most picturesque
corners of the Alps, it is dominated by the Sella massif.
Corvara is one of the bigger villages in the Italian
Alps, and has a lively Apres Ski, with a wide variety
of bars; hotels; and restaurants. It is one of the
most sought after tourist centres in the Alps.
Whilst staying in Corvara there are a
few attractions worth visiting including the Pic' Museo
Ladin, which houses a number of exhibits about the
history of the Val Badia region as well as a number
of churches including the Sospirolo.
There are also a number of shops, which
sell almost anything you could need. Corvara also has
some of the best mountain restaurants, which all serve
a range of excellent traditional and Italian cuisine.
Winter holidays in Alta Badia are known
for skiing, snow boarding and cross-country skiing.

Ski Schools - The Alta
Badia ski schools have more than 200 instructors. Group
and private lessons are available in downhill skiing,
telemarking, snowboarding, mono skiing, carving, cross
country skiing.
Cross Country Skiing -
The Cross country area located in Corvara/Colfosco
provides approximately 40 kms of trails that wind their
way through forests and meadows.
Off Piste Skiing and Alpine Ski
Touring - There are numerous opportunities
for alpine touring and off piste skiing in the Alta
Badia area. It is highly recommended that you engage
an Alpine Guide for your own safety. There a many
guides available for hire.
Winter Walks / Snow Shoe Walks-
Alta Badia offers more than 80 km of walks that are
carefully prepared. Walk through through forests and
meadows into beautiful surrounding un spoilt area.
The snow shoe walks are suitable for any age and will
allow you to have a different kind of adventure to
a traditional walk. Walking through woods and across
alpine grazing land, the snow shoes will allow you
to float on the snow.“Ciaspole”, shoes
for walking on the snow, are made of a light alloy
that, fixed to the feet.
Ice Skating - Corvara
has an indoor ice skating rink you can spend an evening
with family and friends skating to disco music.
Ice Curling - is available
at Pedraces
Tobogganing/Sledging -
The Alta Badia area offers various opportunities to
enjoy a natural sleigh ride along specially prepared
runs.
Snow Biking - Mountain
bike riding is not just a summer sport but can also
be enjoyed through winter. In the wintertime it is
possible to ride over snow covered tracks that have
been specially prepared. In Alta Badia there are lots
of routes that may be used during the winter months
just using a normal mountain bike.
Ice Climbing - not
for the feint hearted, ice climbing involves climbing
a frozen water fall. It is highly recommended that
you seek the assistance of an expert alpine guide as
this is a particularly dangerous sport.
Summer offers the opportunity to explore
the beautiful valley and surrounding Dolomite mountains.
Follow walking tracks along the sun drenched valley
floor or follow a Vie Ferrate (iron-ladder mountain
walk ways). The Alta Badia area offers than 400 km
of well prepared and signposted walks and climbs.
In Summer enjoy a wide range of activities
including :
Golf - Golf lovers can
enjoy a quiet game of golf on the 9 hole golf course-
PAR 72 located a couple of kilometres from the centre
of Corvara. The course is set at an altitude of 1,700
metres above sea level. The best time to play is from
June to October, when the temperatures are perfect.
There is also a putting green, practice green and two
professional assistants.
Mountain biking - What
could be better than cycling trough woods and meadows
in fresh alpine air. There are bicycle tracks suitable
for all.
Horse Riding - The
equestrian centres in the valley are well equipped
for those want to discover Alta Badia on horseback.
Enjoy the exhilaration of galloping through the parks
of Puez-Odle or Fanes-Sennes-Braies, or perfect your
style at one of the riding schools.
Horse-Drawn Carriages -
For those wanting a more tranquil equestrian experience
try a relaxing trip in a horse-drawn carriage. A pair
of norici or avelignesi horses will drive you around
some of the most enchanting landscapes in Alta Badia.
Trips are available from San Cassiano, La Villa and
Pedraces.
Other activities available include Abseiling,
Nordic walking, and Paratandem flights.
There is a vast range of places to eat
including pizzerias, restaurants which offer Ladin
cuisine, and pubs
The Ladin cuisine dates back to the
traditional peasant recipes of the region. The simple
tasty dishes are appreciated by people from around
the world. In the last years many of the restaurants
have re-discovered the Ladin cuisine. In regard to
the Ladin cooking, the small farmhouse restaurants
deserve a special mention. It is a unique experience,
to savour the home made dishes personally prepared
by the lady of the house.
And since good food goes hand in hand
with good wine, pay a visit to one of the many bars,
which have extensive wine lists.
The local produce includes, milk, flour,
potatoes, beans, spinach, mushrooms and the fruits
of the forest such as blueberries and raspberries.
The climate is a typical alpine climate
with mild summers (average temperature of 18-20°C
during the day and 10°C at night. September is
mild followed by a cold October and in November when
it is not uncommon to see the first snow flakes.
Winter starts in December and extends
to February when the average temperature is below 0°C
with a minimum of -20°C at night. The temperature
differences between day and night are quite significant.
Although the area receives a lot of snow
in winter, it can still count on about 100 days of
sunshine between December and March. The most rainy
month during the year is June.
