Formerly a heli-ski operation, the
authentic small town atmosphere of Kicking Horse,
the 1,260
m (4,134 ft) of awesome vertical and fabulous snowmobile
and snowshoeing trails has helped this resort become
recognised as the “Best Small Resort” by
Good Ski and Snowboard Guide (UK).
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is located
just outside of Golden, BC, in the Kootenay Rockies.
It offers skiers and boarders some of the finest
champagne powder snow. It has the second highest
vertical in Canada. The ski terrain includes three
alpine bowls, a mix of chutes, glades
and steep terrain, beautiful long groomers and gentle slopes for less experienced
skiers and snowboarders. Cross country skiers
are also well catered for with 14 km (8.7
mi) of classic track set trails.
The resort is well known for its super
dry champagne powder snow and has an average
snowfall of 700
cm (23 ft) at the peak per year.
Skiers and non skiers will both enjoy
the experience of dining at the
award winning Eagle Eye Restaurant. Situated at
2,347 m (7,700 ft) high the Eagle Eye restaurant
is Canada’s
highest restaurant.

For expert and advanced skiers and snowboarders,
Kicking Horse is the ideal resort. There are
black-diamond
runs to the bottom. Race Place lets you get some speed going and is great for
a warm up whilst for those who like to give their
knees a work out in a bump run there are some great
bumps under the Pioneer lift. There is a
choice of bowls and untracked powder for the powder
junkie.
Intermediate skiers and boarders have not
been ignored when the runs were carved out. Intermediate
runs can be found all over the mountain and are easily
accessed by any lift.
For beginners there is a way down from
all lifts, except Stairway to Heaven and first
timers will also find some ideal gentle terrain
that is just right for them to try the thrill of
sliding
on skis or a snowboard.

The closest international airport is Calgary. Regional
Canadian flights also land at Cranbrook. Regular
shuttle buses are available from Calgary.
By Bus
There are daily shuttles to
the resort from Golden and from Banff in Alberta.
