 About Fernie

Whilst visiting Fernie watch out for the ghostrider. According to local legend, William Fernie, who brought coal mining to the valley courted the daughter of a local First Nations chief purely to discover the source of the black stones she wore on her necklace. Once Fernie found the coal seam, he had been seeking he deserted the Indian princess. in revenge a curse was placed on the valley. Although the curse was lifted sometime ago, the legend of the Ghostrider remains and when shadows fall across the face of Mount Hosmer in summer, they say you can see two ghostly figures, one riding on horseback, said to be the Indian chief and his daughter.
