The Yarra Valley
and Dandenong Ranges are an idyllic retreat for

There is so much to see an do in the
Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges. Relax and breathe
in the fresh mountain air, enjoy the spectacular

desire then try cross
country
skiing in Lake Mountain, bush walking on one of
the numerous hiking tracks or enjoy a round of golf

The Dandenong's are
well known for their national parks, scenic vistas
and natural wonders
including Cumberland Scenic Reserve in Camberville
which is
home to Victoria's
tallest trees the giant mountain Ash and
Steavenson Falls the tallest falls in Victoria, cascading 82 metres
in three stages.
The Yarra Valley is the heart of the
Victorian wine industry dating back to the first
vineyard Yering Station Winery which was established
1838.
The National Rhododendron
Gardens, in Olinda is home of 15,000 rhododendrons,
12,000 azaleas, 250,000
daffodils,and offers spectacular
views of the Yarra Valley and distant ranges.
There are many Bed and Breakfasts,
guesthouses and self contained cottages hidden amongst
the hills
which are just perfect for a romantic
getaway, or an escape from the stress of everyday
life in the big city.

The Wirreanda Festival
Held on the Melbourne Cup weekend early November in Marysville, the Wirreanda
Festival includes a street parade, food and wine festival, art and craft
exhibitions
and markets. Some of the best gardens in the district are also opened for
viewing during the festival.
Healesville
Healesville is an attractive town set
in a scenic countryside surrounded by low lying mountains
and vineyards. Famous for its wildlife
sanctuary which is home to more than 200 species
of Australian native animals, Healesville, is
also an important food and wine centre and hosts
the annual Yarra Valley
Grape Grazing Festival, held in February. Local vineyards
open their cellar doors to tourists year round. Read

Kalorama
Kalorama is a small
village located just of Mount
Dandenong in the scenic Dandenong Ranges. The
lookout at Five Ways located at the junction of
the Mt Dandenong Tourist Road and
Range Road offers visitors spectacular views to the
east, across Kalorama Park, and down to the Silvan

Lake Mountain
Lake Mountain ski resort (1530m) is located 21kms, a 25 minute drive, from Marysville.
Lake Mountain ski resort offers 37 kms of cross country skiing trails amongst
the snow gums or have fun on a toboggan. The ski season lasts from mid-June
to early October. In summer the walking tracks lead through snow gum woodlands,
open heaths and past alpine wildflowers.
Marysville
Marysville is a picturesque village
situated in a scenic landscape of mountains, forests,
ferns, rivers and spectacular waterfalls. The sub
alpine resort town of Marysville is the ideal destination
for that break from the hustle and bustle of everyday

Mount Dandenong
Mount Dandenong is situated between
the villages of Olinda and Kalorama in
the picturesque Dandenong Ranges. The Dandenong
Ranges National Park, covers much of Mount Dandenong,

Olinda
Olinda Village is
a small popular tourist destination surrounded
by majestic mountain ranges and state forests.
Located in the scenic Dandenong Ranges, between
Mount Dandenong and the villages of Sassafras
and Kallista in the Yarra
Valley Dandenong Ranges region of Victoria.
Olinda is easily accessed from Melbourne making
it an ideal short break holiday destination or

Puffing Billy Steam Railway
Puffing Billy is Australia’s
oldest surviving preserved steam railway.
The 25 km journey takes visitors through
thick forests and lush fern gullies from Belgrave,
to Emerald Lake
Park and Gembrook.
Yarra Glen
Yarra Glen is located in the heart
of the Yarra Valley, known for its fertile soils
it is the centre of the Yarra Valley wineries. The
first vineyard was established in 1838 by William

The Yarra Valley and Dandenong ranges
is located in a warm, temperate
band experiencing warm, dry summers and cool,
wet winters, however temperatures can vary widely
due to the mountainous nature of the region. Snow
falls in the ranges especially the northern part
of the region from June
to September.
The spring air is fresh and crisp.
Summer brings warm days with the occasional cool
night. Autumn is a wonderful
time in the Dandenongs with a magnificent display
of colourful
autumn leaves. During winter the region receives
snowfalls in the north turning it into a magical
winter playground.
Mountain weather can be unpredictable
and anyone hiking through this area should be prepared
for all conditions as you can experience quite rapid
changes in weather regardless of the season.
By Car
The Dandenong Ranges are easily
accessed by car, taking around and hour from Melbourne.
Car is the best way to explore this region as there
are so many palaces to go and many do not have
public transport available. Car hire is available
in Melbourne.
By Bus
Some parts of the region can be accessed by bus services from Melbourne.
By Train
Parts of the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges have
railway stations and are serviced by regular trains
from Melbourne.
