About Wandiligong
Wandiligong is located in a picturesque valley surrounded by forests and mountain ranges about 6kms from Bright in the Victorian High Country.
This small historic village was the site of a small gold rush during the mid 1850's. During the gold rush the towns population grew to 2,000. Today this lovely town's history is preserved and it is registered with the National Trust as a classified landscape. Visitors still have the opportunity to get a feel of what the town once was with many preserved historical buildings such as the Manchester Unity public hall (1874), the general store, several churches and several cottages.
A popular walking track extending from Wandiligong to Bright winds along the bank of Morses Creek.
For those interested in the gold rush history of the village a visit to "The Diggings" is a must. "The Diggings", accessed via Centenary Avenue, was the site of extensive mining. Today it is home to several walking tracks and a footbridge that crosses Morses Creek.
The area around Wandiligong is also home to fruit orchards and tobacco fields.
