Marysville is a picturesque village
situated in a scenic landscape of mountains, forests,
ferns,
rivers
and
spectacular waterfalls. The sub alpine resort town

Marysville started out as a camping
place for gold miners on
their
way
east
to
the
Woods
Point goldfield in the 1860's. The
town site was surveyed in
about 1863 by John Steavenson, and he named it
after his wife Mary. After the railway arrived at
Healesville in 1889 guesthouses were established
in the area starting the tourism industry.

Local shops dress their window with Christmas ornaments and there are several
events held over this period.
The Wirreanda Festival
Held on the Melbourne Cup weekend in early
November the Wirreanda Festival includes a street
parade, food and wine festival, art and craft
exhibitions and markets. Some of the best gardens
in the district are also opened for viewing during
the festival.
Bruno's Art and Sculpture Garden
Located on the way
to En route to Steavenson falls, on Falls Rd, is a
collection
of
over
200
sculptural works in a beautiful garden setting.
Buxton Trout Farm
The Buxton Trout Farm is located about 11 km north of Marysville on the Maroondah
Highway in Buxton. You can catch your own rainbow trout and Atlantic salmon
from the dams or buy fresh or smoked trout.
Cathedral Range State Park
Cathedral Range State Park covers 3577 ha and includes a rugged 7 km mountain
ridge which features some outstanding peaks, exquisite flora including
orchids in
spring and
summer, and an abundance of native fauna. There are a dozen walking tracks
in the park which can be combined to form larger circuits.
Cumberland
Scenic Reserve - Camberville
Camberville is
known as the "Land
of the giant's".
Walk through the magnificent old growth Eucalypt
forests and giant mountain Ash trees,
some
of Victoria's
tallest trees, view waterfalls
and
lush
glades
of Tree Ferns . The reserve is also home to Cora-Lyn Falls, Cumberland
Falls, Barton's Lookout, The Big Culvert (a granite arch built c.1880) and
Sovereign View. Lake Mountain
Lake Mountain ski resort (1530m) is located 21kms, a 25 minute drive, from
Marysville. Lake Mountain ski resort offers 37 kms of cross country skiing
trails amongst
the
snow gums or have fun on a toboggan. The ski season lasts from mid-June
to early October. In summer the walking tracks lead through snow gum
woodlands, open heaths and past alpine wildflowers.
Marysville Museum
The Marysville Museum located in Darwin St houses a collection of horse-drawn
wagons and other vintage and classic vehicles.
Steavenson Falls
Steavenson Falls a major local attraction. Located
3 km south east of Marysville on Falls
Rd. Steavenson Falls are the tallest falls in Victoria,
falling 82 metres in three stages. The falls
are fed by the Steavenson River which is named
after John Steavenson who surveyed
Marysville. The falls and the path from the carpark
are floodlit each night until midnight.
Walking Tracks
Marysville has numerous walking
tracks through the surrounding forests. Many of
the tracks are old timber
tramways which were used to haul mountain ash to
the timber mills.
Some of the walking tracks include The Trestle
Track (2 km), The Tree Fern Gully Track (4 km one-way),
The Keppel Track (6 km) and The Michaeldene Track
(9 km).

Marysville is an easy one and a half hour drive from Melbourne's GPO.
By
Bus
Regular bus services from Melbourne to Marysville
are run by McKenzie's Tourist Services from provides
