About Southport
Southport is well named as it is
Australia's southernmost settlement. Located 104
km southwest of Hobart.
In the early 1800's Southport was
Tasmania's second largest town and it was proposed
as the capital of the colony.
Following several bushfires over
the last 200 years little remains of the once
bustling town. Only a handful of houses have survived,
the most notable being a heritage listed building,
The Jetty House, built in 1875.
Southport offers visitors coastal
walks, swimming, surfing and fishing. Follow the
road around the coast to the local surf beach,
Roaring Beach, then head south and visit Australia's
most southern most point
