About Dover
Dover is located 83 km southwest
of Hobart on the Huon Highway. This attractive
town offers excellent views across the water to
the islands of Faith, Hope and Charity.
Dover was originally established
as a convict probation station and later it became
an important port shipping huon pine to the world.
A number of sawmills opened in the area. Some
of the old steam driven timber cutting engines
can still be seen in the local museum. More recently
Dover has become an important fishing port including
an Atlantic salmon far.
Casey's Living Steam Museum
Casey's Living Steam Museum is the major attraction
in Dover. There is a wonderful display of old
steam engines, along with other displays devoted
to the local apple industry and huon pine timber
industry.
