About Morisset Park
Morisset Park is located on the south western shores of Lake Macquarie, and
along with Morisset Peninsula offer great sailing and water sports.
Lake Macquarie is one of the largest coastal
saltwater lakes in the Southern Hemisphere. The lake
is the ideal
location for a family holiday with four patrolled beaches
numerous locations for a picnic. the Lake has 92 towns
and villages
located around it, 29 public boat ramps, 28 public jetties
and
wharves.
To the west of Morisset park are huge
tracts of state forest.
Morisset Park was named after Major
James Thomas Morisset, commander of the penal settlement
of Newcastle from 1817
to 1823 and later at Norfolk Island.
Places to Visit
Morisset Peninsula
The drive to Morisset Peninsula follows the fringes of the
residential area and along side bushland. A large camping reserve,
Sunshine Park, is located
at the eastern tip of the peninsula. There is a boat
launching ramp, swimming pool, and views north
to the Wangi Wangi Peninsula
Morisset Hospital
Following downsizing
the hospital now welcomes visitors to its extensive
and
attractive grounds which includes a pleasant
picnic area. Kangaroos and native birds can be found
here.
State Forests
The area west of Morisset Park is home to about 13 state forests
scattered throughout the Watagan Mountains. The forests have numerous
lookouts, camping and
picnic areas,
scenic drives,
creeks and walking trails.
Wyee Ostrich Farm
The Wyee Ostrich Farm is located to the south of Morisset Park.
Guided tours are available of the Ostriches. The farm sells Ostrich
leather products and eggs (both painted and unpainted).
The tours are by appointment only.
Climate
The Hunter has a
temperate climate ideal. The average monthly

Getting there
By
car
Morisset park and Lake Macquarie is a 90 minute drive
from Sydney’s
CBD via the F3 Freeway. Take the
Morisset/Cooranbong exit for Cooranbong, Morisset, Watagan
Mountains, Myuna Bay, Wangi Wangi & Toronto.
By rail
Morisset park and Lake Macquarie is serviced by both
Sydney and Country train services. Stations are located
at: Wyee, Morisset, Dora
Creek, Awaba, Fassifern, Booragul, Teralba, Cockle Creek
and Cardiff
By bus or coach
Coach companies throughout
Australia service the Lake Macquarie area. Connections
to and from various locations are available on a
regular basis with the local bus services such as
Newcastle
Buses.
By air
Direct flights are available from Sydney, Melbourne,
Brisbane and the North Coast of NSW to Newcastle
Airport (located
based at Williamtown a 25min drive north of Newcastle).
