About Lovedale
Lovedale is located in the
heart of the Hunter Valley due east
of Pokolbin. This picturesque is well known for its
award winning wines from large and small boutique wineries,
lovely guesthouses, superb restaurants,
and art galleries. For
the outdoor enthusiast activities include golf, horse
riding, hot air ballooning,
bush walking and many other sports.
Lovedale is host to several events during
the year, including the famous
Lovedale
Long Lunch held each year on the third weekend in May.
Several of the local wineries also hold their own events
including Country Music in the Vines, String Quartet
in the
Vines, olive oil promotions, pasta classes and special
events to mark the release of a new vintage.
Wine making in Lovedale dates
back
to the early
1800s when local wheat
and produce farmers turned to grape growing.
Lovedale was named after one of the early families,
the Loves, who had fond memories
of
the
dales of Yorkshire. The Lovedale area was found to be
particularly suitable for vineyards and with its
proximity to the Old
North Road to Windsor made it ideal for wine making.

The Hunter Valley has a
mild climate ideal for vineyards. The average monthly

Getting there
By
Car
From Sydney the Hunter region is just 2hours north and easily accessed via the
F3 freeway. Expressway from the Northern suburbs of Sydney will take you all
the way to Newcastle. To access the Hunter Valley vineyards turn off the expressway
to Cessnock and follow the New England Highway.
By Coach
Coach services are available to the Hunter Valley
with several companies including Greyhound and McCafferty’s
Express.
By Air
Fly to Newcastle and hire a car (prior bookings are essential).
Small air fields are also located at Rutherford, Maitland
and Cessnock.
By Train
Countrylink services are available from Sydney
to Maitland Railway Station. Reservations are required.
